Customs Duty Changes: Non-Alloy Steel Reduced to 5%, Iron and Steel Scrap Exempt, Ships for Breaking Down to 5% CVD Applied.
Notification No. 83/2004-Customs, dated 20th August 2004, announces changes in customs duties on iron and steel, effective immediately. The customs duty on non-alloy steel, excluding seconds and defectives, has been reduced from 10% to 5%. Melting scrap of iron and steel, excluding stainless and heat-resisting steel, is now exempt from customs duty when used for melting. Additionally, the customs duty on ships for breaking up has been reduced from 15% to 5%, although the exemption from countervailing duty (CVD) has been withdrawn, making CVD applicable on such imports.
