The Indian-Ferrous Metals Manufacturers' Association highlighted that some manufacturers were being denied Modvat benefits for duty-paid inputs used in slags and losses. The Central Board of Excise & Customs clarified that credit for duty on inputs should not be denied if part of the inputs is contained in waste or scraps, such as slag, which may be exempt from excise duty. These instructions are to be communicated to relevant field formations, and acknowledgment of receipt is requested.
