India Simplifies Customs Act Procedures: Lifetime Licenses, No Renewal Hassles, and Faceless Clearances.
The Government of India is reducing compliance burdens for citizens and businesses by simplifying customs procedures under the Customs Act, 1962. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) has introduced reforms under the 'Turant Customs' initiative, promoting faceless, paperless, and contactless clearances. Key changes include abolishing periodic renewals for licenses/registrations, granting lifetime validity, and allowing for voluntary surrender or automatic invalidation after one year of inactivity. The Principal Commissioner or Commissioner of Customs may renew licenses invalidated due to inactivity for genuine reasons. These changes will be reviewed for impact after six months.
