Customs Standardizes Unit Quantity Codes for Import/Export; Compliance Required by August 20, 2020, to Enhance Data Accuracy.
The circular from the Office of the Commissioner of Customs (Export) in New Delhi announces the standardization of Unit Quantity Codes (UQCs) in Bills of Entry and Shipping Bills to improve data quality. Effective from August 20, 2020, only specified UQCs will be accepted for imports and exports, as per the Tariff Act. This measure aims to eliminate the use of non-standard UQCs that affect data accuracy. Exporters, Customs Brokers, and stakeholders are advised to comply with these changes, and any issues should be reported to the Additional Commissioner of Customs. The notice is approved by the Commissioner of Customs (Export).
