Indian Customs Integrates Extra Duty Deposit Module into ICES for Faster Clearance and Online Payments.
The circular from the Office of the Principal Commissioner of Customs at Visakhapatnam outlines the integration of the Extra Duty Deposit (EDD) module into the Indian Customs EDI System (ICES) to streamline the payment process for importers and customs brokers. Previously, EDD payments were made manually, causing delays in goods clearance and assessment finalization. Now, EDD payments can be made online through e-payment. The Appraising Officer can generate a separate challan for EDD in ICES 1.5, and payment must be completed before goods are cleared. Any issues with the process should be reported to the Assistant Commissioner (EDI) for resolution.
