SEBI Sets $500 Million Cap for Foreign Institutional Investors in Corporate Debt; Part of Overall ECB Ceiling.
The circular issued by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) addresses the investment limits for Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) in corporate debt. It clarifies that a cumulative sub-ceiling of US $500 million is set for FII investments in corporate debt, in addition to the existing US $1.75 billion cap for investments in government securities and treasury bills. This limit is part of the overall External Commercial Borrowing (ECB) ceiling. Custodians are instructed to inform their FII clients about these investment constraints.
