India Doubles FII Corporate Debt Limit to $6 Billion, Removes 70:30 Equity-Debt Ratio Restriction.
The Government of India has increased the cumulative debt investment limit for Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) in corporate debt from US $3 billion to US $6 billion. This enhanced limit will be allocated on a 'first come first served' basis, with a cap of US $300 million per registered entity. Debt requests should be sent to the specified email starting October 20, 2008. Additionally, the 70:30 investment ratio restriction between equity and debt has been removed, providing FIIs more flexibility. Amendments to the SEBI FII regulations will follow. Custodians are advised to inform their FII clients of these changes.
