SEBI Allows Qualified Foreign Investors to Directly Invest in Unlisted Indian Corporate Debt Securities with 15-Day Listing Rule.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has permitted Qualified Foreign Investors (QFIs) to invest directly in 'to be listed' Indian corporate debt securities from issuers. This decision aligns the investment eligibility criteria between SEBI and the Reserve Bank of India, equating QFIs with Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs). If these debt securities are not listed within 15 days of issuance, QFIs must sell their holdings to domestic investors. All other stipulations from the previous SEBI circular dated July 18, 2012, remain applicable. This circular is issued under SEBI's authority to protect investors and regulate the securities market.
