SEBI Sets INR 5,000 Crore Limit for FPIs in Interest Rate Futures; Individual Cap at INR 1,800 Crore.
The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has allocated a separate limit of INR 5,000 crore for Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) to take long positions in Interest Rate Futures (IRFs). This is to ensure uninterrupted access to bond futures during government securities auctions. Each FPI's net long position cannot exceed INR 1,800 crore. Stock exchanges will monitor and enforce these limits, publishing daily updates. If the 90% threshold is reached, alerts will be issued, and any breach must be rectified within five trading days. Existing investment limits for government securities remain unchanged. This circular is effective immediately.
