India Ends Textile Quota Regime from January 1, 2005; Customs Open to Facilitate Export Surge during Transition.
The circular from the Government of India's Ministry of Finance announces the end of the textile quota regime effective January 1, 2005. From this date, exporters are no longer required to obtain Quota Certificates or related documents for customs clearance of textiles and garments destined for quota countries. Customs offices at sea ports and airports will remain open on January 1 and 2, 2005, without overtime charges, to accommodate the anticipated rush of shipments. Additionally, export documents will be accepted for processing starting December 25, 2004, for shipments departing on or after January 1, 2005, to expedite transaction times for exporters.
