Mumbai Customs Sets E-Auction and Tender Rules for Seized Goods; Registration, EMD Required for Participation.
The Office of the Commissioner of Customs in Mumbai has established a procedure for auctioning or tendering seized, confiscated, and time-expired goods. Disposals will occur via electronic auction (e-auction) or physical tendering on predetermined dates. Prospective e-auction bidders must register with a refundable fee and will receive login credentials. Physical tenders require sealed submissions. Details of auction lots will be available online and for inspection three days prior. Bidders must submit a 10% Earnest Money Deposit (EMD). Auctions close at a set time, and results are announced two hours later. Successful bidders must pay in full within five days to avoid forfeiting their EMD. The Commissioner retains the right to withdraw or cancel lots at any stage.
