India Reduces Paper Use in Customs: Electronic Processing for Key Documents Begins December 1, 2016.
The Government of India aims to enhance the ease of doing business by reducing paper usage in customs clearance processes. The Central Board of Excise & Customs has decided to eliminate the routine printing of GAR 7 forms/TR-6 challans, transshipment permits, and certain copies of Shipping Bills and Bills of Entry. These documents will now be processed electronically, leveraging systems like ICEGATE, IDPMS, and EDPMS. However, printouts will be available on demand for specific cases. These changes are effective from December 1, 2016, and public notices will be issued to facilitate implementation.
