Customs Kandla updates guidelines: Declared weights accepted if deviation under 1%, streamlining assessments per Customs Act 1962.
The Commissioner of Customs at Kandla has issued Public Notice No. 11/2012 to amend guidelines related to the assessment and examination of goods based on weight under the Customs Act, 1962. The amendment addresses discrepancies between declared and actual weights of goods. If the deviation is less than 1%, the declared weight may be accepted, aligning with the Customs Appraising Manual. This change rectifies the previous directive in Public Notice No. 17/2010, which required loading the value of excess goods into the total assessable value even for deviations under 1%, causing delays due to necessary amendments of the Bill of Entry.
