COVID19- IMPROVE HABITS TO FIGHT AGAINST VIRUSES AND DIESES

DEVKUMAR KOTHARI
Improving Hygiene Habits Crucial to Combat COVID-19: Wash Reusable Masks, Avoid Overreliance on Sanitizers, Control Face-Touching Urges. The article discusses the ongoing challenges posed by COVID-19 and emphasizes the importance of improving hygiene habits to combat the virus and other pathogens. It highlights the necessity of thorough cleaning practices, such as washing reusable masks and gloves with soap and water, and suggests that reliance on sanitizers alone is insufficient. The text criticizes current disposal methods for protective gear and packing materials, advocating for washing these items before disposal to prevent virus spread. It also addresses common habits that increase infection risk, like touching the face, and stresses the importance of controlling such urges. The article includes responses from readers who discuss immunity, the impact of social behaviors, and systemic issues like overcrowding and misinformation contributing to the virus's spread. (AI Summary)

We have to live with Covid19 and other viruses, bacteria, insects etc.:

In view of increasing positive cases, and chances of quick and wide spread, it is clear that we have to live with threats of COVID19 and we need to be more careful as lockdown is being unlocked.

Mistakes of few people can cause risks to many people due to wide spread of virus.

We have to save ourselves and also others by avoiding mistakes or omissions which can cause spread of Covid19.

It seems that many precautionary measures are missing and they are also not been advised. By practical experience we can learn many new things and actions which need to be done to protect oneself and others in his contact.

COVID19- PRECAUTIONS – LEARN FROM EXPERIENCE AND OBSERVATIONS

During last few months we have made several observations and gained experience in relation to protection against virus, bacteria and insects etc.

Some of learning points are:

Only washing of hands with soap after thorough rubbing is not enough. Taps, showers, soap dispensers or soap bottle of soap, or soap case, as the case may be are also required to be cleaned regularly with soap and water. Liquid soap is a better option.

Reusable items like mask, gloves, face cover PPE which can be washed / sanitized are preferable than single use items.

Water and soap is better option than sanitizers. With water and soap any object can be cleaned before reuse. Even in case of disposal of non-usable items if it is washed with soap and water it would be safer.

Sanitizers have to be used when soap and water cannot be used. However, efficacy of sanitizer is less. This is for the reason that sanitizer remains on your hands or other parts. We find it difficult to keep sanitizer bottle itself sanitized properly.

Water + soap+ rubbing and flow in water:

Use water + soap then rub, then wash in running water etc must be applied to avoid spread of Covid:

Mask cleaning and disposal: applying soap with water then rubbing and washing in running water  are important materials and steps for deactivating any virus, bacteria, insects etc. on Mask, PPE, Gloves, ... Therefore washable and reusable mask, gloves, PPE can be accordingly treated and dried for reuse.  Mask, gloves, PPE which are not reusable should also be cleaned with soap and water , rubbed, washed in running water then only should be thrown in dust bean or dumping place to avoid spread of virus which may be on mask, gloves, PPE... I think guidelines to open mask with string and throw in covered dust bean is wrong and incomplete and is a cause of spread of Corona virus.

Likewise gloves ,PPE and other items should also be treated with soap, water, rubbing, wash in running water before reuse or disposal.

Disposal of masks,  gloves, napkins  etc. in a covered trash box, and then sending to trash collection centres  as suggested in TV channels and websites  may not be good practice as it is incomplete. Before putting them in trash box, it would be better practice to wash them with soap and water so that there is no risk of virus being carried to other places.

Packing material:

Disposal of packing material ( inner and outer both) used in packing of any goods which are received in times of Covid, is also important. The packing material must also be cleaned with soap and water before disposal. If packing material is thrown without cleaning or sensitization, there is huge risk of virus being carried.

Wrong habits:

Itching/ Khujalana:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IG_0_259R_4

खुजानेकामज़ाहीअलगहै

खुजाने का मज़ा ही अलग है खुजली परेशानी है तो खुजाना आनंद जितना खुजलाएंगे उतनी होगी खुजली सालों पुराना है खुजली का इतिहा

Most of us are habituated to touch various parts above our shoulders starting from chin,   cheeks, mouth- lips,  teeth and tongue, nose and nostrils, eyes, forehead , head and hair on head, daaddhi aur  munche / beard and  moustache etc

Sometimes urge is due to itching which can be occasional or due to skin disease. Once we start to do itching, urge increases and speed and pressure for khujlana increases.

These habits are a source of ailments and dieses. Different habits and different practices are noticed. We can recall and notice people putting fingers on different parts in different style. Some styles are borrowed from actors of films.

Skin dieses:

Skin dieses also causes urge to do ithining / khujalana. It is necessary to control itching urge by regular cleaning by washing with soap and water and  proper treatment with medicines and local application of proper ointment , lotion or other treatments. Particularly if due to any dieses, there is itching above your shoulders it need immediate check and control in view of Corona Virus and other viruses.

The Mask is almost rendered useless due to these habits.

Mask itself causes more urge of itching/ khujali. We have more urge to do khujali when we wear a mask. Khujali /  urge of itching  need to be controlled.

During lock down period at home and also during my weekly visit to nearby Charu Market, I noticed that due to habits or  urges for  touching  body parts  above our  shoulders , we are losing in our war against Corona.  Eyes, nose and mouth are most active receivers of virus like Corona, ear can also be an entry point of virus to our lungs.

Myths about Khujalana:

We find many myths about khaj/ khujli in our families and society. On net also we find pictures of itching body parts and some indication.  For example, Khujali in  Left and Right palms are considered as indicative of different outcomes in case of man and woman and in different societies. For example read on web page

A thought to be suitably spread to educate and train people of India.
