PC BALM AN IGNOMINIOUS RETREAT

Harish Chander Bhatia
CBDT Criticized for Delay in Extending ITR and TAR Deadlines Amid Website Issues; High Court Intervention Required The article criticizes the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and a specific official for their initial refusal to extend the deadline for filing Income Tax Returns (ITR) and Tax Audit Reports (TAR) despite technical issues with the department's website. The refusal caused stress among taxpayers and professionals. The CBDT eventually issued an extension after being admonished by the Delhi High Court. The author argues this stubbornness led to unnecessary waste of resources and criticizes the official for not being accommodating. The article suggests that historical records will remember these actions unfavorably. (AI Summary)
Till  21st of October, 2013 , The CBDT was adamant in granting extension for filing of the ITR and TAR. NOT even up to this, the Board was preposterously bent upon to challenge the DCAS and ICAI Delegation appointed by the Hon'ble High Court of Delhi, to prove any instance of technical snags in the department website during the last days of filing of the returns, what a shame? The entire professional community's peace of mind was a stake on those last days, many could not file their returns and many crossed the dead line 30.9.2013 while continued in making attempt to file and entered into 1.10.2013 after 12.00 midnight and worried about the delay of one minutes would be considered a delay in filing of the TAR and ITR.

The department who itself is IMPERFECT considers the others PERFECT, it is not fair, DEAR CBDT, you have all the machineries, mechanism, infrastructures, team and force and despite all this you are not perfect. You and your team, your officers commit mistakes on mistakes, blunders on blunders and you embrace them and showers your benign love and blessings, but why this step-treatment and indiscrimination for the taxpayers and professionals. They too have share and contributory in the cake .of your prosperity.

The heaven would have not fallen, if Mr. PC had gracefully accepted the submissions of the professional delegation at the earliest stage and had pleased them with a small extension sought to avoid stressful nights of those days but few people irrespective of their status and post do not deserve the blessings and well wishes and the same was so with Mr. PC, so unyielding, so unkind

Just within a gap of two days, the mindset changed and because of ignominy of being admonished by the Hon'ble High Court and granting the relief to the taxpayers and professionals, the PC slyly and stealthy under veil, issued the notification.

NOW the important question, what the CBDT gained, perhaps nothing or less than nothing but at the cost of lots of wastage of printing and stationery, persons power, wastage of power, communication means, in totality a complete NATIONAL WASTAGE, for which the ONLY and ONLY is responsible person is Mr. PC, just for his obdurate mind-set, which does not behove to any person occupying this post. Interestingly, his doggedness   had disappeared when he was the home minister, perhaps he consciously kept himself diplomatic just because of the strength of the other side.

What the department will do with the tons of papers of audit reports filed in compliance to his orders, another business for Kabadiwalas.

HISTORY will not forget these incorrigible humans.
