Every establishment employing five hundred or more workers must constitute a Safety Committee with representation of employers and workers. The Central Government may prescribe varying worker thresholds for different classes of establishments. The Committee has a three-year tenure and must meet quarterly, or monthly in the case of mines. It must be informed of workplace safety and health hazards, accident data, and surveillance data, and the employer must implement its recommendations within fifteen days of receipt.
