Unaccompanied baggage is governed by the Baggage Rules, subject to specified exclusions. Customs authorities may allow such baggage where it remains in the possession of the passenger abroad and is dispatched within one month of arrival in India, or within such further period as may be permitted. They may also allow baggage to arrive up to two months before the passenger, or within a longer period not exceeding one year, where recorded reasons show the passenger could not arrive within the two-month period because of circumstances beyond control, including illness, natural calamities, disturbed conditions, or transport disruption.
