In view of Circular No. 5/2014 of CBDT, the expenses related to the exempt income had to be calculated as per Section 14A read with Rule 8D, it is not material that: the assessee should have earned such exempt income during the financial year under consideration. The AO did not raise this issue pertaining to Section 14A of the Act, and did not disallow any expenses to earn exempt income. 3.
