Central Government Bans Import of Counterfeit and Misleading Goods Under Customs Act, 1962; Updates Trade Marks Act References.
The Central Government, under section 11 of the Customs Act, 1962, has prohibited the import of specific goods to protect public interest. Prohibited items include counterfeit coins, obscene materials, and goods produced outside India with misleading trademarks unless clearly marked with their origin. Additionally, piece goods, cotton yarn, and threads manufactured abroad must be marked with the manufacturer's name and product specifics. Amendments made by Notification No. 48/2007 updated references to the Trade Marks Act, 1999. Certain clauses have been omitted, and specific sections of the Trade Marks Act have been substituted to reflect current legislation.
