of <h1>India Exempts Goods from Education Cess Under Customs Tariff Act, 1975; Exemption Rescinded in 2015</h1> The Government of India, through Notification No. 13/2012-Customs dated March 17, 2012, exempted all goods within the First Schedule of the Customs Tariff Act, 1975, from the Education Cess when imported into India. This exemption, exercised under the Customs Act, 1962, and the Finance Act, 2004, was deemed necessary in the public interest. However, the exemption does not apply to specific goods listed in a table from Notification No. 69/2004-Customs, including certain electronic and media items. This exemption was later rescinded by Notification No. 09/2015 on March 1, 2015.
