of <h1>India Exempts News Agencies from Service Tax on Online Information Services under Notification No. 13/2010; Later Rescinded in 2012.</h1> The Government of India, through Notification No. 13/2010-Service Tax dated February 27, 2010, exempts Indian news agencies from service tax on services related to online information and database access or retrieval, and business auxiliary services. This exemption applies if the agency is solely established for news collection and distribution, is recognized under clause (22B) of section 10 of the Income Tax Act, 1961, and uses its income solely for these purposes without distributing it to members. This notification was effective upon publication and was later rescinded by Notification No. 34/2012 on June 20, 2012.
