India Revises Excise Duty Rates; New Amendments Affect Motor Vehicles, Medical Devices, and More Under Notification No. 16/2009
The Government of India has issued amendments to Notification No. 6/2006-Central Excise, effective from July 7, 2009, under Notification No. 16/2009. These amendments adjust the effective rate of duty on various items. Changes include substituting the duty rate to 8% for items listed under specific serial numbers, modifications to descriptions for certain motor vehicles, and the introduction of new entries such as motor chassis and medical devices with specified duty rates. Additionally, a condition has been added stating that the notification does not apply to goods where input duty credit has been claimed under CENVAT Credit Rules, 2004.
