Quality Control Orders exemption for SEZ imports is clarified, with domestic clearance made subject to BIS compliance and applicable laws. Exemption from applicability of Quality Control Orders (QCOs) issued under the BIS Act, 2016 is extended to SEZ Units and SEZ Developers for import of permissible goods required for authorised operations within Special Economic Zones. The exemption applies only to use within the SEZ, while any removal, transfer or clearance into the Domestic Tariff Area remains subject to applicable QCOs, BIS requirements and other applicable laws. An undertaking must be submitted at the time of importation, and Para 2.03(A)(iii) of FTP, 2023 is amended to align the exemption framework.
