of <h1>Government sets compensation cess rate to nil under Section 8(2) of GST (Compensation to States) Act, effective 22 Sept 2025</h1> The Central Government, exercising powers under section 8(2) of the Goods and Services Tax (Compensation to States) Act, 2017, amends Notification No. 1/2017-Compensation Cess (Rate) by substituting 'Nil' in column (4) of the SCHEDULE against specified serial numbers (2, 3, 4, 4A, 4B, 39-42, 47, 48, 50-55, 52A, 52B and 53-54 as listed), thereby setting the compensation cess rate to nil for those entries; the amendment takes effect on 22 September 2025 and updates the principal notification dated 28 June 2017 as previously amended.
