<h1>India Introduces Graded Customs Duty for Smartwatch Components to Boost Local Manufacturing; Effective February 2, 2022.</h1> The Government of India, through Notification No. 11/2022-Customs, has introduced a graded Basic Customs Duty (BCD) structure for components used in the manufacture of wrist wearable devices, such as smartwatches. Effective from February 2, 2022, this notification exempts specified goods from customs duty exceeding the standard rate, subject to conditions outlined in the annexure. The notification covers various components like vibrator motors, batteries, printed circuit board assemblies, display assemblies, and charging cables, with duty rates ranging from nil to 15% based on specified timeframes and conditions. The notification aims to support the manufacturing of wearable technology in India.
