<h1>India Exempts Customs Duties on COVID-19 Essentials Until September 2020, Later Rescinded in February 2022.</h1> The Government of India, through Notification No. 20/2020-Customs dated April 9, 2020, exempted customs duties on ventilators, face masks, surgical masks, personal protection equipment (PPE), COVID-19 testing kits, and inputs for manufacturing these items. This exemption was enacted under the Customs Act, 1962 and the Finance Act, 2020, in the public interest. It applied to specific chapters and headings in the Customs Tariff Act and was valid until September 30, 2020. The notification was later rescinded by Notification No. 05/2022-Customs, effective February 2, 2022.
