Prison escape security lapses prompt coordinated tracing measures, transport monitoring, inter-state alerts, and a detailed custodial-security inquiry.
Prison escape and custodial-security lapses arose after a detainee escaped from Aluva Sub Jail, allegedly by using an under-construction structure within the premises to cross the compound wall. Following his later appearance at a police station seeking return of his Aadhaar card, search measures included a lookout circular, information sharing with police stations, railway-security coordination, and alerting police in Assam. A detailed inquiry has been initiated into the prison-security deficiencies enabling the escape.

Women's savings account selection depends on practical benefits, charges, eligibility, and banking needs rather than the account label.
Women's Savings Accounts may provide standard banking facilities together with additional services or benefits for eligible women. Their suitability depends on practical use of digital banking, transfers, payments, alerts, debit-card facilities, accessibility, security features, charges, and minimum-balance conditions. Since regular Savings Accounts may offer comparable facilities, the additional benefits should be assessed against associated costs and conditions. Selection should be based on comparison of eligibility, facilities, balance requirements, benefits, customer support, and authentication safeguards rather than the account's women-focused label alone.

Retirement annuity selection prioritises payout structure, taxation, insurer strength and flexibility over brand comparison for informed retirement decisions.
Retirement planning may combine market-linked accumulation during working years, deferred annuities that lock future guaranteed income, and immediate annuities that convert retirement savings into regular payments. Annuity choice depends on whether the priority is higher income, continuation for a surviving spouse, or return of capital on death. Product comparison should consider market-linked growth versus income certainty, taxation of annuity income at applicable slab rates, insurer strength, and flexibility in deferment, payout frequency and policy loans.

Hybrid cyber fraud exploits stolen smartphones and intercepted verification codes to compromise digital banking and payment accounts.
Hybrid cyber fraud combines physical smartphone theft with digital financial exploitation. Offenders obtain screen-lock credentials, steal devices and use control of the active SIM card to intercept verification codes and reset UPI and digital banking credentials. Preventive measures include withholding PINs, passwords and OTPs; avoiding storage of financial and identity records on phones; and immediately blocking the SIM card and freezing digital banking and UPI services after a theft.

Sugar price-control measures combine raw-sugar imports, stockholding limits and export restrictions to curb retail price pressures.
Sugar price-control measures combine authorised raw-sugar imports, stockholding limits for dealers and bulk consumers, and an existing export prohibition to address elevated domestic prices. Imports are permitted within the specified period, while stockholding restrictions seek to curb speculation and hoarding. Retail prices continued to rise despite lower ex-mill prices, and the regulatory approach focuses on augmenting supply, limiting stock accumulation, and preventing export-related pressure on domestic availability.

Input tax credit mismatch alone cannot support fraud-based GST demand without an assessing officer's recorded satisfaction of fraud or suppression.
Section 74 GST demand proceedings require the assessing officer's independent satisfaction of fraud, wilful misstatement or suppression of facts. An input tax credit mismatch or alleged short payment alone cannot establish these conditions. Unsupported assertions of suppression for invoking extended limitation are insufficient, and audit objections cannot replace the assessing officer's satisfaction. A show cause-cum-demand notice lacking factual allegations of a deliberate device to evade tax or avail excess input tax credit is vulnerable.

Reciprocal trade tariffs intensify as negotiations confront market access, cultural protections, industrial safeguards, and sovereignty concerns.
US-Canada tariff escalation involves reciprocal import duties following failed negotiations over market access and trade in dairy, alcoholic beverages, automobiles, steel, aluminium and softwood lumber. United States tariff action relies on a rarely used trade-law power permitting duties against countries considered to discriminate against American businesses, without a prior investigation or stated time limit. Negotiations also raised concerns about protection of major industries, cultural protections and Canada's freedom to conclude trade agreements with other countries.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has released the “National Accounts Statistics – 2026” publication for the base year 2022-23. The publication provides comprehensive and detailed estimates of national income, production, expenditure and other key macroeconomic aggregates of the Indian economy. This serves as an important source of information for policymakers, researchers, analysts and other stakeholders for assessing the performance and structural changes in the Indian economy.

2.   The publication presents a set of sixty statements based on the updated Final Estimates for the financial years 2022–23 and 2023–24, and First Revised Estimates for 2024–25, encompassing the following broad category of estimates:

  • Macro-Economic Aggregates: Gross Domestic Product (GDP), National Income, Per-capita income, price and quantum indices;
  • Statements on Production and Value Added: Sectoral output, intermediate consumption, and GVA breakdowns by economic activity;
  • Statements on Consumption and Expenditure: Private Final Consumption Expenditure (PFCE), Government Final Consumption Expenditure (GFCE);
  • Statements on Savings and Capital Formation:  Institutional sector savings covering households, the corporate sector, and general government; Capital Formation by industry of use, asset type, and institutional sector;
  • Public Sector and External Transaction: Public sector transactions, external transactions accounts reflecting international trade and external flows.

3.  Also, the publication covers four statements on updated Provisional Estimates of GDP for the year 2025-26 and the quarterly estimates of GDP from 2022-23 to 2025-26.

4.  The publication incorporates the updated estimates of annual and quarterly estimates on account of using new series of output Producer Price Index (PPI), Index of Industrial Production (IIP), and Banking Services Price Index (BkSPI) with the base year 2022-23 released during June 2026, and updated data from administrative sources.

5.  The aforesaid new indicators with base year 2022-23 have shown structural updates by expansion in their commodity baskets and quotations over previous series, and methodological alignment with the international standards. Commodity basket of PPI included several emerging items and dropped obsolete items which were in the old series of WPI. The broader item coverage and updated weights in PPI provide improved mapping of price measures to the activities covered in the national accounts. Similarly, IIP (Base: 2022-23) shown greater coverage of items and quotations and uses PPI in place of WPI as one of its underlying price-related inputs. BkSPI (Base: 2022-23) enables compilation of growth in actual physical volume and transactional activity of banking services over time.

6.  The incorporation of these updated indicators has resulted in revisions to the annual and quarterly estimates of GDP from 2022–23 onwards, both at current and constant prices. At constant prices, the revisions are more visible in sectors where the PPI is used as a price measure in place of old WPI. At current prices, revisions in GVA are primarily associated with updated estimates of General Government and Departmental Enterprises. Such revision is mainly due to updated estimates of Net Fixed Capital Stock and Consumption of Fixed Capital (CFC) owing to incorporation of PPI series.

7.   The impact of the updated indicators varies across sectors depending upon their use in the estimation methodology and the extent of changes in the underlying indicators. For example, the revision in the constant price GVA of Mining & Quarrying is associated with the incorporation of the new IIP series, which is based on the revised base of the index of mineral production compiled by the Indian Bureau of Mines. In Manufacturing, the expanded coverage of the PPI has improved the mapping of price measures to the relevant activities, resulting in revisions to the estimates. Trade services have also been updated through the use of PPI in place of WPI. In Public Administration and Ownership of Dwelling, revisions in current-price estimates have correspondingly updated the constant-price estimates.

8.  The revisions for 2025–26 are relatively broader in nature, as the estimates for this year are also impacted by the updation of the benchmark estimates for the previous year, in addition to the use of the new series of PPI and IIP.

9.  The Supply and Use Tables (SUTs) for 2022–23 and 2023–24 have also been updated to incorporate the above indicated changes. The revised SUTs along with the accompanying ‘Methodological Note’ are available on the official website of MoSPI at https://www.mospi.gov.in/publications-reports/innerpage/847.

10.  The resulting changes in the level and growth rates of GDP at current and constant prices for FY 2022–23 to FY 2025–26 are presented below:
