NOTE:
Bilaspur (HP), Jun 24 (PTI) Himachal's Bilaspur district has identified turmeric and garlic as its key export products under the Centre's Districts as Export Hubs (DEH) initiative.
The decision was taken in a meeting of the District Export Promotion Committee (DEPC) on Tuesday evening, a statement issued here on Wednesday said.
The meeting, organised by the Department of Industries and chaired by Assistant Commissioner Rajkumar, reviewed the district's export potential and discussed the District Export Action Plan (DEAP) under the Foreign Trade Policy 2023.
Officials said turmeric and garlic were selected after assessing the district's agro-climatic conditions and market potential. The committee noted that value addition through processing, packaging, branding and marketing could help increase farmers' income while creating export opportunities for local producers.
Participants were briefed on the Government of India's Dak Niryat Kendra initiative, which enables micro and small enterprises to access overseas markets through parcel exports.
Challenges such as limited exporter awareness, inadequate cold-chain and processing infrastructure and difficulties in accessing international markets were also discussed, the statement added. PTI COR BPL TRB
