Patna, Apr 2 (PTI) The commercial taxes department of Bihar recorded revenues worth Rs 43,324 crore in the 2025-26 financial year, achieving 93.17 per cent of the target of Rs 46,500 crore, a senior official said on Thursday.

The collection was 4.09 per cent more than the figure in 2024-25, he said.

Secretary-cum-Commissioner of the department, Sanjay Kumar Singh, said it collected Rs 32,801 crore as GST in 2025-26, an increase of 11.67 per cent year-on-year.

“However, after the deduction of an IGST settlement amount of Rs 724 crore by the central government, the net GST receipt came down to Rs 32,077 crore, which still gives us a growth rate of 9.2 per cent,” Singh told reporters.

He said the growth of 9.2 per cent was “outstanding”, as it has been achieved despite rationalisation of GST rates and the Bihar assembly elections.

“GST rates were rationalised in September last year, and the tax rates on many essential and consumer items were significantly reduced. Furthermore, there was a slow period of about two months due to the elections. Despite these factors, a growth of 9.2 per cent is truly outstanding,” he asserted.

Among the large states, Bihar ranks fourth in terms of total GST collection, Singh said.

According to a statement issued by the department, collections from petrol registered a negative 4.56 per cent growth.

“The target for the Registration Department for 2025-26 was Rs 8,250 crore. Against this, we have achieved Rs 8,403.46 crore, which is 101.86 per cent of the target and 9.86 per cent higher than the revenue from registration last year,” he said. PTI SUK RBT

GST revenue growth in Bihar remained strong despite rate rationalisation, election slowdown, and IGST settlement deductions. Bihar's commercial taxes department reported total revenue collections of Rs 43,324 crore for the 2025-26 financial year, with GST collections of Rs 32,801 crore and net GST receipt of Rs 32,077 crore after IGST settlement deduction. The department said the 9.2 per cent GST growth remained significant despite GST rate rationalisation and an election-related slowdown. The state ranked fourth among large states in total GST collection, while petrol collections declined and the Registration Department exceeded its revenue target.
