Customs Duty Changes: Cement, Zinc, and Ferro-Alloys Lose Exemptions; New Rates for TMT Bars and Fabrics Effective Sept 1, 2008.
As part of a stimulus package, changes in Customs and Additional Customs duty rates have been implemented. The exemption on Additional Customs duty for imported cement has been withdrawn, reinstating a countervailing duty and a 4% special duty. The duty exemption on zinc and ferro-alloys has been removed, restoring a 5% customs duty. Imported TMT bars and structurals now face a 10% Additional Customs duty. These measures aim to support domestic industries. Drawback rates have been revised, increasing rates for cotton, man-made, and woollen knitted fabrics, agricultural tools, and other items. These changes are effective from September 1, 2008.
