Israel and India restart free trade agreement talks to boost bilateral trade, investment, services and technology cooperation
Israel and India have signed terms of reference to commence negotiations on a free trade agreement aimed at enhancing bilateral trade and investment. The framework covers market access for goods through reduction of tariff and non-tariff barriers, investment facilitation, simplified customs procedures, strengthened cooperation on innovation and technology transfer, and liberalisation of trade in services. Sensitive sectors will be excluded from the negotiations. The FTA initiative follows previously stalled talks that began in 2010. The agreement is intended to reverse recent declines in bilateral trade and support expansion beyond traditional sectors, complementing a recently concluded bilateral investment agreement designed to promote two-way foreign direct investment.
