IT firm reports 19,755 staff reduction in Q2 amid company-reported layoffs, union alleges thousands more coerced exits
An Indian IT firm's reported headcount fell by about 19,755 in Q2 to 593,314 from 613,069, a reduction larger than the roughly 12,000 (2%) layoffs it had earlier announced. Management said the decrease comprised voluntary and involuntary attrition, with around 6,000 involuntary releases and a severance cost of Rs 1,135 crore, and described support measures for affected staff. An employee union alleges the company under-reported the scale, claiming nearly 8,000 additional disappearances from the rolls and accusing management of deliberate downplaying and coercive separation practices.
