Major Asian country and four-nation European bloc enforce free trade pact lowering tariffs, liberalising services, linking USD100B investment pledge
A free trade agreement between a major Asian country and a four-nation European bloc entered into force, eliminating or reducing tariffs across most goods and liberalising services. The bloc committed to USD 100 billion in direct investment over 15 years (excluding portfolio flows) with a three-year grace period; the agreement permits temporary withdrawal of tariff concessions if investment obligations are unmet. The pact covers over 92% of the Asian country's tariff lines and over 82% of the bloc's, exempts or phases down duties on many industrial, processed agricultural and services items over schedules of immediate to ten years, and preserves protections for listed sensitive sectors.
