Ruling party refutes opposition on GST reforms, says inter-state slabs won't cut revenue and will boost trade
A ruling party spokesperson rejected the opposition's criticism of recent GST reforms, asserting the state will not lose revenue under new inter-state slabs and citing rising GST and IGST collections-from Rs 4,753 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 7,883 crore in 2022-23-and total receipts plus central grants of Rs 24,317 crore against a Rs 50,000 crore budget. The spokesperson noted large shares of expenditure on salaries, pensions and interest, and argued that the Next Gen GST reforms promoted by the prime minister will ease trade, lower consumer prices and benefit farmers and industry.
