EU proposes targeted measures against Israel for alleged breach of Association Agreement human-rights clause, including sanctions and trade suspensions
The EU proposed targeted legal measures pressuring the Israeli government over its Gaza military campaign: sanctions (asset freezes and EU travel bans) on 10 Hamas leaders, certain settlers and two cabinet-level officials; partial suspension of trade preferences that would impose WTO tariffs on selected Israeli goods (raising tariffs on about €230 million of imports); immediate suspension of roughly €32 million in Commission-controlled bilateral funds; and retention of existing arms-export arrangements. Adoption requires sufficient agreement among member states and is justified by an alleged breach of the human-rights clause in the EU-Israel Association Agreement.
