State scheme fines Rs 9.07 crore for irregular bills, recovers Rs 7.30 crore, boosts tax compliance through consumer app
A state government scheme launched to encourage consumers to demand bills for purchases has led to the imposition of penalties totaling Rs 9.07 crore on entities found issuing irregular bills, with Rs 7.30 crore already recovered. The initiative incentivizes consumers to upload purchase bills via a dedicated app to enter monthly prize draws, rewarding them up to Rs 10,000 per bill. Since its inception, over 1.76 lakh bills have been uploaded, resulting in more than 5,600 winners receiving prizes exceeding Rs 3.35 crore. The scheme excludes bills related to petroleum products, liquor, out-of-state purchases, and business-to-business transactions. This consumer-driven approach has expanded tax compliance and enforcement, increased registrations, and contributed to curbing tax evasion within the state.
