Money-laundering prosecution complaints allege that funds from toll-road projects and credit facilities were diverted through group companies, contractors, shell entities and conduit accounts. In the toll-road matter, allegedly sham or back-dated subcontracting arrangements and subsequent documentation were used to portray transfers as genuine project expenditure. In the credit-facilities matter, fresh facilities were allegedly used to repay, rotate and evergreen earlier liabilities rather than for sanctioned end-use, with funds layered and presented as legitimate business expenditure or receipts. Direct Benefit Transfer pension disbursement replaces cooperative-bank doorstep delivery, while preserving home payments for beneficiaries unable to use bank accounts.
Direct Benefit Transfer of social security and welfare pensions to Aadhaar-linked bank accounts is intended to replace cooperative-bank doorstep delivery, except for bedridden and similarly situated beneficiaries. The change addresses delays in remitting undistributed pensions, deficient record updates and reconciliation, duplicate payments, delivery incentives, and compliance with Direct Benefit Transfer norms. Criticism focuses on beneficiary access to linked commercial-bank accounts, possible minimum-balance deductions, exclusion of cooperative banks, and the effect on doorstep-delivery workers.

Savings account selection requires comparison of effective interest, fees, digital service, access, and individual banking needs.
Savings-account selection should compare effective interest returns under slab-based rates, recurring operating charges and the customer's actual banking needs. Net value depends not only on advertised rates but also on relevant minimum-balance, card, ATM, alert and transfer fees. Digital reliability, customer support, branch availability and ATM access should be assessed according to the customer's average balance, cash use, transfer frequency, travel patterns and need for in-person assistance. Illegal immigration enforcement prioritises dismantling entry, documentation and employment networks while requiring citizens to report information through police channels.
Illegal immigration enforcement involves continuous identification and verification operations, coordination with relevant officials, and confidential investigation of networks facilitating entry, identity documentation, accommodation and employment. Enquiries extend to intermediaries, contractors, Aadhaar procurement and verification practices, rather than focusing only on apprehended individuals. Citizen vigilantism, moral policing and social-media targeting of suspected migrants are discouraged because they may compromise investigations; information should instead be given through proper police channels.

Foreign capital inflows supported the rupee despite geopolitical uncertainty, oil-price pressures, and volatile global market sentiment.
Foreign capital inflows supported a marginal strengthening of the rupee against the US dollar despite global risk aversion arising from uncertainty surrounding negotiations affecting the Strait of Hormuz. Higher crude oil prices and weak domestic equity sentiment remained relevant pressures. Near-term currency movement was expected to depend on developments in the negotiations, weekend decisions, US employment data, the dollar index, crude oil prices, and the reported increase in foreign exchange reserves.

Domestic resilience is also linked to support for private deep-water oil and gas exploration, opening offshore acreage, and expansion of compressed biogas and ethanol blending. Ethanol-blended petrol testing identified limited contamination instances rather than a systemic issue, while excise duty reductions were described as cushioning consumers against global fuel-price volatility.

New Delhi, Jul 17 (PTI) The European Union-India relationship is on an "ascending trend" and the two sides represent for each other a "safe investment" at a time when trade, technology, migration and information are being "weaponised", EU Ambassador to India, Hervé Delphin said on Thursday.

At an interactive session here, he also described the "historic visit" of President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the EU College of Commissioners to India in February as "a vote of confidence and trust in this relationship with India".

"EU, India relationship is clearly on an ascending trend," he said, adding the 27-nation bloc is a "unique construct", even for Europeans, to navigate that reality, which is "sui generis" (of its own kind).

People understand that the EU stands as a "collective force" in today's world, the envoy said at the event organised by strategic affairs think-tank Ananta Centre.

Delphin mentioned that it was "interesting to see how global powers such as Russia, China and the US put a focus on the EU, and not necessarily in positive terms".

"But, it probably means that we matter. So, they may deride us, may challenge us, may undermine us, but it means that we matter, otherwise they will not take the pain and time in focusing on us... We are a collective force with Member States altogether," he asserted.

On EU-India ties, Delphin said, they both stand as "cooperative partners" committed to rule-based approaches and a rule-based order. Both are committed to finding solutions to global challenges and global commons, from AI to biodiversity, he added.

This partnership, which has "grown organically, having over 50 areas of dialogue and cooperation", has generated benefits, the envoy said.

"When you see how investment, trade, technology, migration, energy, and information are being weaponised, we represent for each other a safe investment. I think this has grown in the minds, this intersection of our economic, political and security interests has simply grown." Delphin said it was about how the EU-India partnership can "deliver mutual benefits, not just for two of us, in a win-win (way), but also what it can bring for the world, especially in times of this turbulence".

He also underlined that in this context of geopolitical and geo-economic dynamics, "for us, the environment has never been so conducive" for a " strong strategic partnership".

"As a partner of choice and as a partner for necessity. We both stand to benefit from that relationship. There is indeed an untapped potential and maybe this is a time to deliver." Referring to the ASEAN Regional Forum held last week, he said it was to boost trade and connectivity, and how to "accelerate digital transition and green transition".

"It was pretty obvious there that countries with which we have just signed an FTA, we are negotiating an FTA and close to finalising an FTA. And, (there are) those who want to open and resume an FTA... We just concluded it with Singapore and Vietnam... We have a political agreement for a comprehensive economic partnership with Indonesia," he said.

"I would say in the stock market of strategic value, the EU is up. Definitely it's up, that way puts more pressure on us. I think we should seize the moment," the envoy said.

He also referred to Brexit, saying, "We had to digest or manage a divorce with the UK. It was clearly a negative-sum game. No one in Europe... was for the UK to be out of the EU. Now, you see the mood in the UK, the timing was sort of, in retrospect, probably not good, neither for the UK nor the EU." "And, of course, Trump 1, followed by Trump 2, that certainly brings a host of challenges in the relationship. But, somehow, we managed to navigate that... all the series of crises," he added.

Delphin remarked that the EU often tends to be "written off", but he asserted that it was a collective force.

"So, what you see unfolding is what I call the 'rearmament' of the EU. The military rearmament... societal rearmament, defending our democracy, increasing the resilience of our societies, and of course, the economic rearmament. We made our own journey through that, realising we need to increase our resilience and strategic autonomy." "We are readying ourselves to the new normal... that we have changed fundamentally our DNA... we remain an open society, a democratic society. But the difference is that we don't want our openness to be turned into a vulnerability, and turned against us. We don't want this interdependence being weaponised against us," the envoy underlined.

On the visit of the President of the European Commission to India, he said it was a "strong political message", and the sense that "we need to invest more".

During the key meetings, "lingering doubt was shattered" and the trust element was built there, and it was reinforced that "we are ready to trust each other", the evoy said.

Referring to von der Leyens's keynote address during the visit, Delphin said, "She had said that it is a 'consequential partnership' not just for the EU and India, but also for the rest of the world." PTI KND NSD NSD
