Finance Minister directs tax officers to resolve taxpayer grievances faster and accelerate refund processing
The Finance Minister directed income tax officers to proactively resolve taxpayer grievances and ensure timely refund processing during a conclave with Principal Chief Commissioners. Officials were instructed to accelerate disposal of disputed tax demands pending before faceless appellate authorities to reduce litigation backlog. The minister emphasized adopting a taxpayer-centric approach for improved service delivery and transparency. Refunds for the current financial year increased 58.04 percent year-on-year. Out of 160,229 grievances received, 131,844 were resolved, achieving 82.28 percent disposal rate. The government raised monetary thresholds for filing tax appeals, with departmental appeals below revised limits to be withdrawn within three months.
