<h1>India Cracks Down on Vanishing Companies: 238 Identified, 87 Untraced, Legal Action Underway per Companies Act.</h1> The Government of India has implemented legal measures to ensure companies operate transparently and in compliance with the Companies Act and other relevant laws. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs, along with SEBI, monitors and takes action against companies that disappear after raising public funds. A Central Coordination and Monitoring Committee has identified 238 such vanishing companies, with 151 traced and 87 still untraced as of March 31, 2012. Legal actions, including filing complaints and prosecutions under various sections of the Companies Act, are being pursued. The Committee continuously adjusts procedures based on stakeholder feedback.
