During the first week of new financial year, anti-evasion branch of service tax Commissionerate has completed investigation in five cases and issued Show Cause Notices demanding service tax amounting to Rs. 14.10 crores.
Among those issued SCNs include a major property developer, who collected service tax from its clients in the name of "reimbursement of service tax" amounting to Rs. 3.25 Crores and did not deposit the same to the Government. This developer even does not have Service Tax Registration Number. Another developer has been issued SCN for Rs. 0.15 crores.
A SCN demanding service tax of Rs 1.34 crores has been issued to one major coaching instituted involved in conducting coaching for IAS exam. The duty amounting to Rs. 1.18 crores has been deposited by the party during investigation.
Other parties to which SCN has been issued, includes one major coaching and training institute, organizing course and awarding foreign degree (service tax demanded is Rs. 5.84 crores), one major foreign Airlines (service tax demanded is Rs. 3.52 crores). The Airlines deposited Rs. 0.87 crores during investigations.
