RBI Releases Second Draft Guidelines on Recovery Agents; Proposes Call Recording, Background Checks, and Agent Training Nationwide.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released a second draft of guidelines concerning recovery agents, inviting public comments within ten days. The revised guidelines propose measures such as recording calls between agents and customers, updating recovery agent lists on bank websites, and verifying agents' backgrounds, potentially through police checks. They also address asset repossession conditions, handling frivolous complaints, and using credit counsellors for sympathetic cases. To ensure agent training nationwide, banks may partner with the Indian Institute of Banking and Finance or other institutions. This follows the initial draft released in November 2007, revised based on feedback.
