<h1>RTI Act: Rejections Decrease, Penalties on Officials Rise; No Amendments Planned by Government.</h1> The Right to Information (RTI) Act allows rejection of requests if they fall under exemption clauses or involve third-party information. The Central Information Commission can penalize public information officers for non-compliance. Penalties were imposed on 48 officials in 2008-09, 154 in 2009-10, 273 in 2010-11, and 148 in 2011. Disciplinary actions were taken against 9 officials in 2008-09, 33 in 2009-10, and 432 in 2010-11. RTI requests rejected were 7.26% in 2008-09, 6.43% in 2009-10, and 5.20% in 2010-11. No amendments to the RTI Act are currently considered by the government.
