<h1>Unclaimed Deposits in Indian Banks Reach Rs. 24,356 Crore by End of 2020, RBI Urges Action to Locate Owners.</h1> As of December 31, 2020, unclaimed deposits with Scheduled Commercial Banks in India totaled Rs. 24,356 crore, according to the Reserve Bank of India. This amount increased by Rs. 5,977 crore compared to 2019, due to depositors not claiming their funds. The RBI has issued circulars urging banks to actively locate account holders of unclaimed deposits. Following amendments to the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, the RBI established the Depositor Education and Awareness Fund Scheme in 2014, which aims to promote depositor interests. This information was disclosed by a Union Minister in a written response in the Rajya Sabha.
