Cabinet Approves Higher MSPs for 2019-20 Rabi Crops, Promising 109% Return for Wheat Farmers by 2022.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved an increase in the Minimum Support Prices (MSPs) for Rabi crops for the 2019-20 season, to be marketed in the 2020-21 Rabi Marketing Season. This decision aligns with the policy of setting MSPs at least 1.5 times the all-India weighted average cost of production, aiming to enhance farmers' income by 2022. The highest MSP increase is for lentil, followed by safflower and gram. Wheat farmers will receive a 109% return over production costs. The government emphasizes an income-centric approach, including schemes like PM-KISAN and PM-AASHA to boost farmers' income.
