Government Urges Industry to Pass GST Cuts to Consumers; FMCG Firms Asked to Revise Prices Post-Rate Reduction.
The Central Government has urged industry leaders to pass the benefits of reduced GST rates to consumers to boost domestic demand and investment. Following the GST Council's 23rd meeting, the GST rate was reduced from 28% to 18% on goods under 178 headings, with further reductions on other items. These changes took effect from November 14, 2017. The Chairperson of the Central Board of Excise and Customs has requested major FMCG companies to revise the maximum retail price (MRP) on affected products and publicize these changes. The government expects an immediate response from the industry to this appeal.
