<h1>Government Exempts Special Economic Zones from IGST on Imported Goods for Authorized Operations, Boosting Export Growth.</h1> The government has exempted Special Economic Zones (SEZs) from integrated goods and services tax (IGST) on imported goods for authorized operations, as per a notification from the Department of Revenue. SEZs, considered foreign territories for trade, aim to boost exports, which increased by approximately 12% to Rs. 5.24 lakh crore in 2016-17 from Rs. 4.68 lakh crore in 2015-16. As of May 1, 421 SEZs have been approved, with 218 currently operational.
