<h1>Central Excise and Service Tax Assessees Transition to GST from January 7, 2017; Provisional IDs Issued by CBEC.</h1> Existing Central Excise and Service Tax assessees will transition to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system starting January 7, 2017. The Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) will issue Provisional IDs and Passwords to assessees with valid PANs. Assessees may not receive a Provisional ID if their PAN is invalid, registered with a State Tax authority, or if there are multiple registrations under the same PAN in a state. Using the Provisional ID and Password, assessees must log into the GST Common Portal to complete and submit Form 20 with the necessary documents for migration.
