India-Switzerland Protocol Updates Tax Agreement for Better Data Exchange, Effective April 1, 2011.
The Amending Protocol between India and Switzerland will revise the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement to allow the exchange of banking information and other data without domestic interest. The protocol requires the requesting state to provide specific details about individuals under investigation, such as name, address, and tax identification number, to prevent indiscriminate data requests. This amendment, effective from April 1, 2011, aims to facilitate effective information exchange while preventing fishing expeditions. The information was disclosed by the Minister of State for Finance in response to a query in the Rajya Sabha.
