<h1>India Embraces Digital Tax Filing: 94% Online Returns in 2015-16, Faster Refunds with Tech Innovations.</h1> In the fiscal year 2015-16, 94% of income tax returns in India were filed online, with 4.14 crore returns processed automatically. More than 2.10 crore refunds totaling Rs. 1,22,425 crore were issued, showing an increase from previous years. The Central Board of Direct Taxes and Central Board of Excise and Customs are leveraging technology for efficient tax assessments and refunds. E-payment systems for Central Excise and Service Tax have been implemented, with 80% of refunds processed within five days for service exporters. The Single Window Interface for Facilitating Trade (SWIFT) streamlines import-export processes, benefiting over 97% of imports.
