RBI Enables Exchange of Soiled Currency at Regional Offices and Banks; Service Available Since January 2013.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is facilitating the exchange of soiled or torn currency notes through its 19 regional offices and currency chest/bank branches. Public can exchange damaged currency at these locations or submit them in Triple Lock Receptacle covers to RBI offices, with the value credited to their bank accounts later. All bank branches have been instructed to offer this service since January 28, 2013. This initiative aims to enhance accessibility for the public, leveraging the extensive network of commercial banks to distribute currency more effectively. The RBI will continue overseeing the distribution through these channels.
